Following months of public scrutiny, the Hollister City Council will, on Monday evening, be voting on whether to consolidate the department of Community Development into existing city departments while eliminating 3 positions in the process.

The proposal from City Manager Ana Cortez and states that the city faces “a crisis of public opinion directed at the Community Development Department, immediate action is necessary.”

The proposal would eliminate the Department of Community Development, the Assistant City Manager/Director of Community Development, the Building Official, and the Cannabis Affairs Manager. 3 SEIU-represented roles will be integrated into other departments. According to the proposal, this would produce $936,868 in annual savings.

Essential department functions will be integrated into existing city departments. Planning will be integrated into the parks department, cannabis will be integrated with Police, the permit desk will be integrated with finance, and building inspections will be integrated with Public Works.

The city council will vote on the restructuring today Monday April 6th, at 6:30pm
