Before You Begin
The San Benito County Planning Commission will have a special session Wednesday September 10th to receive a report on a potential new high school site.
The San Benito County High School District recently submitted a notice to the county of Consideration of District Property For A Potential High School. The notice is required by law and requires the county to submit an opinion on the consideration.
The San Benito County High School District has been planning for a new high school off of Wright Road for the last few years.
Property Being Considered
The property being considered for the new site is located at Best Road and Highway 25 in South County. The District has owned the site since 1997 and it sits adjacent to Gavilan College’s Hollister Campus and Ridgemark.
Reasons For The Alternate Site

The District notably cites an additional 6,902 projected units that it has evaluated in it’s mapping including the recently proposed builder’s remedy projects. 10 of these projects, including 6 builder’s remedy projects, have yet to be included in the district’s facilities master plan. Most of the builder’s remedy projects cited are in south county including the large Lands of Lima project.
These 10 additional projects amount to the total of 2,387 new residential dwelling units. Resedential dwelling units could include anything from townhomes and apartments to single family homes. All in all the district projects an addition 2,393 new students from the proposed developments and must plan accordingly.
The district notes in it’s letter that it is submitting the notice to the county to keep all options on the table given recent developments in the county. Those developments mainly being builder’s remedy and the rescinding of Hollister’s 2040 General Plan.
The Planning Commission Special Session is scheduled for Wednesday September 10th, 2025 at 6:00 pm.
