About Joby
Joby Aviation is a Santa Cruz-based company that develops an all-electric, vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft designed to operate as a fast, quiet, and convenient air taxi service in cities worldwide. The aircraft, a five-seat aircraft (one pilot, four passengers), takes off vertically like a helicopter and transitions to wing-borne forward flight, with a range of up to 150 miles and speeds up to 200 mph. Joby currently has facilities in Santa Cruz, Marina, and San Carlos
Joby is currently seeking a through-gate airport access agreement with the FAA. The city of Hollister voted to approve an agreement for through access with Joby back in December.
The Facility
Joby has acquired a 47,500 square foot warehouse in the Airpark Business Center at 1891 Airpark Drive. Joby announced on LinkedIn and X that it paid $15 million for the facility. Joby was initially seeking 10,000 square feet of space, which represents a major increase.
The Airpark Business Center is a 100-acre master planned business park on the southern end of the Hollister Airport off of Flynn Road. The Airpark Business Center has spaces ranging from 1 to 15 acres, with most currently available spaces at about 2.5 acres.
Joby joins other aerospace companies that have set up shop in town, including Boeing’s Wisk Aero, Alef Aeronautics, and ZeroAvia. Joby has already begun advertising roles for Flight Test Engineers located in Hollister. Needless to say, the skies over Hollister will be mighty interesting in the coming years.
